Giveaway: Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil

A few weeks ago I was talking to a nutritionist about what type of oil I should use in my cooking, she suggested coconut oil. So I researched it. I found this website: Tropical Traditions that specializes in coconut oil. On the website I was able to read about the benefits of using coconut oil, not only in cooking but using it as hair and skin care.

"Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss."

I bought a jar of the coconut oil, used it both in my cooking and on my hair and loved it. Because I loved it I decided to contact them and have them send me a free sample of coconut oil that came with an introduction book. While I don't usually participate in giveaways or hold them myself, I decided that this is something that is worth it. It opens up doors for people to learn more about healthy cooking, healthy skin and hair care, and maybe through doing that, leads to more learning of healthy options.

So, I'm going to be giving away not only the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil, but also the introduction book.

Hmmmmm...

To make my meals healthier, I do the following:

*Use olive oil
*Use honey instead of sugar to sweeten
*Bake my french fries instead of frying them
*Use reduce fat mayo
*Eat only whole grain bread and pasta
*Eat on smaller plates to make my portions smaller

That's all that I can think of from the top of my head *smile.*

Cool! My name is Madison Chernik. To keep my cooking healthier I usually substitute butter for olive oil, but I'd LOVE to try coconut oil. I also use plain yogurt in the place of mayo.

Hi Margaret! It's Kate :)

What's funny is that I was talking to my mom's friend who is a nutritionist and she was saying that coconut milk is better for you! So I went and bought some of that! I've also read about coconut oil and have ALWAYS wanted to try it :)

But to make my cooking healthier I usually add more veggies than a recipe may call for, use brown rice instead of white rice, wheat pasta instead of regular. But the thing is, I'm a sucker for butter (and think the fake stuff is worse for you) so I don't usually substitute that if it calls for it :) Although I might use olive oil. But I HAVE been looking for a substitute. Coconut oil sounds like a great one :) Whew that was a lot!

Wow, I've always heard about using coconut oil but never tried it. To cook/eat healthier we use olive oil, mostly wheat pastas & breads and most organic fruit & veggies.

Omg Margie, i think you've converted me. I'd love to try. Name is Felicia Heykoop, of course

How I cook healthy and cheaply:
Dumpster dive at the local Trader Joe's for food. They throw out tons of good stuff every night and their food is healthier. We made a pizza of dumpster finds last night. Instead of tomato sauce, we used red pepper hummus. Instead of pepperoni and other gross nitrate-infested crap, we used Persian cucumbers (also found in the TJ dumpster!) Instead of the classic soda and beer: water and OJ

Margaret! I've never thought about using coconut oil, but I'm making a note to try it once I have money! =D

When I cook, I use reduced fat cheeses and 1% or fat free milk. I also use lots of fresh veggies and olive oil. Wheat or barley flour instead of white, and flaxseed meal in oatmeal is really yummy and good for you!

Love you love you love you!

I can't believe my fav. flavor of all time is in oil and shredded so I can make my own coconut milk now.
I use it for
frying, oh! my goodness popcorn, what flavor.
I use it also for my baked foods and for literally everything.
It smells so good and makes my hair and face feel so soft.
My fav. candy has always been Joy or Almond Joy.

We have recently started using flax seed and flax seed oil when we cook. Its really good, and healthy for you. We have started substituting beans or other forms of protein for at least one meal that we would normally eat meat with, a week. We also only eat whole grains.

Never tried coconut oil in any recipes. To try to eat healthier, we choose to purchase organic meat and dairy products. We do this in order to keep the extra hormones out of our systems, and Emma's system. We also eat a lot of whole grain food, natural unprocessed food, and are eliminating extra fat from our diets.
