I left Riley on the bed to take her nap. She's become very mobile so this was not a good idea. I left the room to start dinner and such. I hear her babbling and fussing a bit but this is normal behavior during her afternoon nap. Leif had told me he didn't want me leaving her on the bed because she could fall off since she's been scooting around so much but I laughed and said "That won't happen". Well I go in to check on her and she's still on her back, but half of her body is hanging over the side of the bed, with a blanket covering her head. She's laughing, and I grab her right away and freak out. Then she starts crying because I'm upset.
I called Leif and at first I kind of laughed about it, but then I realized she could have fallen and broken her neck and started crying. Then he tells me: "I told you so". Thank you Leif. :) From now on Riley will take naps in her crib, unless I'm sleeping on the bed with her.
FAIL. And Riley had already fallen sideways and hit her head today while sitting and playing at Mommy & Me. Really now?

It's quite alright. She didn't fall, and she's safe. And I'm betting odds are good that if she HAD fallen, she wouldn't have broken her neck. Babies are all bendy for a reason. C has taken TONS of spills!
Riley is cute as ever!!
babies fall all the time! My mom said when I was 2 I fell down a whole flight of stairs head first, had a good long cry and a nap and am still here today and quite all right :) my little sister took a bad fall when she was a newborn and everything turned out ok. no worries!
she's still cute though.
Oh gosh, my son has a bruise that is blue from the top of his eye to past his nose, it's all because he was sliding on the floor in a laundry basket and with hardwood floors its way to slippery. Mommy of course said no, and I turn my back for once and bam goes my son's face against our hardwood coffee table. He busted his lip and he still has this bruise across his face, it looks so bad.
And it's even worst when we're out in public and he's crying and he has a bruise on his face, I am thinking omg what do people think ive done to this little boy?
I guess I rambled off to say that unfortunately it happens :(
They are made out of rubber at this point, they fall and the bounce right back, literally. I left Laila on the couch one time, and I think she was that mobile and she fell right off, she also fell off the changing table. I bend down to get powder or a diaper or something and when I raised back up there she was flying past me. I used to freak out too, because they are so little and tiny, but she will be fine. But since you have that walker, just put her in there when she gets up.
precious riley, no more jungle gym adventures for you baby.
i love you mama marge. you are mother of the year in my book :)
Don't feel like a bad mom at all! You got to her before anything bad happened and you learned not to do that again. Isn't that what parenting is about? Learning and doing our best to prevent injury?
You're doing a great job!
I think you're a wonderful mother, Margaret. I echo everyone else - spills and falls are going to happen when babies are learning to be mobile. I know I'll probably freak out when I have little babies of my own, but you are a good mom, m'dear. I mean, if we don't fall at some point, how will we learn to get up again? *HUGS*
We are going to make mistakes through their whole lives. There is no reason to beat yourself up over the "what ifs." She didn't fall, she's fine and you are the best mommy!
as a mom, you really can only go so far in protecting your little one. doesn't make you any less of a bad mother IMO. don't get too paranoid. their little tumbles and falls are inevitable,
She's fine! :) Nicholas has face planted many times and I've bumped him into his mobile on his changing table... Kids are rubber and it's not biggie. You're a great Mom!!!
